Spritefetch Terms of Service
Draft, not reviewed by an attorney.
Last updated: October 19, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Spritefetch, including the website at spritefetch.com, the REST API, the MCP server, and the files they serve (together, the "Service"). Spritefetch is a sole-proprietor project run by the project owner ("we", "us", "our").
1. Accepting these Terms
By using the Service, including by searching, downloading, or creating an API key, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you agree to these Terms for that organization and confirm you have authority to do so.
2. Agents and automated use
The Service is built for AI agents and other automated clients. If you set up, configure, or run an agent that uses the Service, you are responsible for that agent's use of the Service as if it were your own, including its compliance with these Terms.
3. The Service
Spritefetch is a library of free 2D sprite sheets and tilesets, offered under the licenses stated by their sources (currently CC0-1.0). You can search the library without an account. A free API key gives you higher usage limits.
We may change, suspend, or stop any part of the Service at any time. The Service is offered free of charge, and we don't promise that it will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
4. API keys and accounts
- To get an API key, you give us an email address. We sign you in by sending a one-time link to that address.
- Keep your API key confidential. You are responsible for activity that uses your key.
- Tell us at support@spritefetch.com if you think your key has been compromised.
- We may revoke or disable a key at any time, including if we believe it is being misused.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an API key.
5. Usage limits
Anonymous use and API-key use are subject to rate limits published in our documentation. We may change these limits at any time. Don't try to get around them, for example by rotating IP addresses or creating multiple keys.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or use the Service to infringe anyone else's rights;
- interfere with, overload, or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure;
- get around rate limits, access controls, or security measures;
- access parts of the Service you aren't authorized to use, including maintainer-only features;
- use the Service to distribute malware or harmful code; or
- misrepresent your affiliation with Spritefetch, or suggest that we endorse you or your product.
7. Assets and licenses
We don't own the assets. The sprite sheets and tilesets in the library were created by third parties. Each asset is offered under the license stated by its source, as shown in the asset's record (currently CC0-1.0). These Terms don't grant you any license to an asset; the asset's own license does.
License information is as stated by the source. Each record lists a license, source, and credited author where known, plus any caveats. We record each source's stated terms and license file and keep snapshots of them. Some source pages are no longer online, and some sources don't record a per-file author. Where we know of an issue like this, the record's caveats say so. A dedication made by a repository maintainer may not cover every file if a contributor didn't hold the rights.
Status labels are not a warranty. Asset records and pages show status labels and fields describing our checks (for example, "Auto-checked", meaning an automated license check passed, or "Reviewed", meaning a maintainer reviewed the asset), and fields such as whether API mirroring is allowed. These describe our internal process only. They are not legal advice, a guarantee that an asset is free of third-party rights, or a promise that an asset is fit for your use.
What CC0 doesn't cover. CC0 is a public domain dedication of the creator's copyright and related rights. It does not grant trademark, publicity, privacy, or patent rights, and it doesn't cover rights other people may have in the work or in what it depicts. For example, an asset that resembles a known character, logo, or brand may still be subject to someone else's trademark or other rights. Credit lines that name a source or publisher are factual credits, not permission to use their names or trademarks, and don't imply endorsement.
You are responsible for your use. Before you ship anything that uses an asset, check its license, source, and caveats, and decide for yourself whether your use is appropriate.
8. Removed assets and versions
Asset versions have stable URLs. However, we may remove any asset or version at any time, including in response to a copyright or other complaint. When we remove a version, its file URLs return "410 Gone". We aren't responsible for any effect a removal has on your builds or products. To report a copyright problem, see our Copyright and DMCA Policy.
9. Our materials
The asset licenses apply only to the assets. They don't apply to the Spritefetch name, logo, or website design, or to the software that runs the Service. Except for the assets, the site content and software are © the project owner. All rights reserved.
10. Feedback
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE AND ALL ASSETS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE PROJECT OWNER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF LICENSE, AUTHOR, SOURCE, OR STATUS INFORMATION.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE PROJECT OWNER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR ANY ASSET, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
13. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and hold harmless the project owner from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service or any asset, your agent's use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.
14. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. To have your API keys and account data deleted, email support@spritefetch.com; see our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your access to the Service, or revoke your API key, at any time, with or without notice. Sections 7, 9 through 13, 16, and 17 survive termination.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We announce changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If you keep using the Service after an update takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
17. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Copyright and DMCA Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours.
